The Ocean Inside Review
This book was well written and a good story. It involved following a family through everyday trials and tribulations that far too many families encounter. My only disappointment was that the story of insurance denial for the critically ill child was superficially touched and not an accurate portrayal of what families denied coverage actually go through when trying to force the hand of the insurance carriers. Otherwise, the characters were well developed and the story line was intriguing. A very pleasant read.

The Ocean Inside Overview
Life changes in an instant. One day, Emmett and Lauren Sullivan's biggest worries revolve around the escalating taxes on their gorgeous Victorian beach house on Pawley's Island, South Carolina. The next, they're facing a devastating crisis. Emmett and Lauren have always been a team, working together to raise their two daughters. But lately, with all their attention focused on nine-year-old Ainslie, they barely notice as their older daughter, Sloan, drifts further away from them and toward a reckless path that could tear their family apart.

Major let-down - Sierra Sorrell - CT
I absolutely loved "Calling Home" so I was super excited to follow it up with "The Ocean Within." Now that I am done reading, I am confused. This novel went from sappy drama (a la "My Sister's Keeper") to an action/suspense story and was even sprinkled with some completely unbelievable fantasy. The story was all over the place and at times bizarre. Had I read this book first, it would have been the only McMahan novel I read....Glad I had the pleasure of reading "Calling Home" first!

The Ocean Inside - David Cooper - Rixeyville, VA United States
Did I read the same book the other reviewrs did? First of all, insurance is supposed to be the main problem in this story, yet I felt it was only mentioned in passing and then only to wrap up the story. My biggest gripe is that it is fine for Sloan to have knowledge of a murder and she tells no one - not even the victim's uncle? Her parents know something is wrong but they just let it go? Really? She just shoves the whole thing out of her conscience? can only disagree with the novel's premise - many of us know what our children are involved in and have raised children with morals and consciences. I can usually find something to enjoy in most books, but this one just left me shaking my head. Sorry, I can't recommend this one.
Couldn't put it down - K. Spurling - Shelbyville, KY
I took The Ocean Inside to the beach and couldn't put it down. I spent my first day of vacation reading this book and loved every page. The best book I've read on vacation-excellent writing, content & characters. Highly recommended!!!
